American Streetwise Instructors

The instructors at American Streetwise Self Defense are ranked by international organizations, have received many years of training, and passed strict testing requirements. While maintaining a safe and positive training environment, the instructors at American Streetwise teach with results as the first priority. Students are taught all aspects of the system, in order to train their minds and bodies to perform all techniques effectively.

Master Jack Buckley

Jack Buckley began training in Ishin Ryu Karate in 1967, and then augmented that experience by earning a black belt or the equivalent in Bando Boxing, Muay Thai, Kempo, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, and finally Shotokan Karate.  In 1983, he founded American Streetwise Self Defense, blending the best parts of these arts into one system.  He holds the rank of Ku Dan (ninth degree black belt).

Sensei Steve Lampo

Steve Lampo served for more than 20 years as a Special Agent in the FBI before retiring in 2024.  He trained in the Shorin Ryu and Ishin Ryu systems of Karate while growing up, and competed in other weapons-based competitions for several years before training under Master Buckley at American Streetwise Self Defense.  He currently holds the rank of San Dan (third degree black belt), and in 2024 he was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

James Ludwiczak

James Ludwiczak has been training for more than ten years at American Streetwise, and teaches many of the beginner and intermediate classes.  He currently holds the rank of purple belt.
